Start School By Making Them Laugh! Safety Memes

Students love memes so let's engage.  "Refuse to Reinvent the Wheel" and "Your Science Teacher" have great lab safety meme activities to start off the year. Safety in science class is a real issue and just reading and signing the "rules" isn't enough, they need to really know them. If it's memorable, then they might remember them. I know, I've had to actually use a fire extinguisher in class.

Here is my plan:
1. Read the rules as a class
2. Show the meme slideshow and discuss the message of the meme
3. Introduce make your own safety meme project (see links to blogs above)

I hope my students get a giggle.
