Setting Up a Science Classroom

Each year I move a few things around to keep things interesting. I am in my classroom a lot so I want it to be a place students and I want to be. It is our home away from home. Over 400 students in grades K-8 come through my room each week so I have to to organized. Here are some tips:

* Have an overall color scheme or theme. Elementary teachers are pros at this but middle school teachers can do this too. The colors/theme tie the room together. I have blue and green with white polka dots as my theme. The dollar store is your friend. I even have green polka dot earrings, garden gloves, and socks. Have a theme and go a bit crazy!

* Really organized drawers & cupboards- A friend of mine is a nurse and she gave me unused surgical trays. They fit perfectly in my long shallow drawers. I use a label maker to make labels for the outside of the drawers and cupboards so I know what is inside.

* A large Periodic Table of Elements and Engineering & Design Poster

* Area about you- Mine is behind my desk. I covered cork board with polka dot fabric. I also have a pennant and other items from the college I attended.
