2017 Bright Idea Society Winner! Woo Hoo!!!!

Please support us on March 4, 2017 at Pet Co Park at the San Diego Science & Engineering Festival!

My Maker Studio elective students won the 2017 Bright Idea Society Award for the San Diego Science and Engineering Festival. Learn more at: www.lovestemsd.org  under the "Programs" tab.

One elementary, one middle school, and one high school are chosen for this award and we are the middle school recipient. It was fun to tell the students about their accomplishment! We will have a booth on March 4, 2017 at Pet Co Park. 25,000-30,000 people are expected to attend this event encouraging STEM/STEAM education and careers. The award includes bus transportation, T-shirts, a booth in the Bright Idea Society alley, award on stage, and $500. We will be working hard to get ready over the next month! We will need a lot of help from other middle school science lovers, parents, and staff to make our booth amazing!
Makey Makey Invention Kit

Here is an excerpt from the proposal the students wrote:

Our booth would showcase Makey Makey projects in the areas of music, art, gaming, and a light display. One wall would feature a tin foil accented Twister mat that makes music when a circle is touched. One wall would have interactive art with copies of famous paintings that have been altered to verbally say things. For example, the Mona Lisa may say, "What are you looking at?" when her mouth is touched. We would have a table with game controllers made out of everyday items to play popular games like Mario and Pac Man.  We would have a light wall where lights spelling out "STEM" could be lit up using the Makey Makey kit and everyday items. Instructions would be posted and students would be there to help and encourage participants.
