Mystery Science 5th Grade Web of Life Lesson 2: Weighing Air Experiment for Distance Learning

Mystery Science 5th Grade Web of Life Lesson 2: Weighing Air Experiment for Distance Learning

I love Mystery Science because kids love it. We are currently distance learning for a couple more weeks. I sent home some science materials the first week of school. I modified Lesson 2 What Do Plants Need? in the Mystery Science Web of Life unit. The materials I sent home for this experiment:

Ruler

2 balloons

2 large binder clips

2 small binder clips

2 paper clips

This is the weighing air experiment. In the Mystery Science demonstration, 6 balloons and a meter stick were used. This wasn't possible to send home with our budget and logistics. Here is the modification I came up with:

Here is the outcome students should have:

We are doing this experiment this week. I love that the kids are able to do science experiments at home. I am having them video and explain their experiment on SeeSaw. We will then be writing a CER (Claim, Evidence, Reasoning) paragraph together.
